Calligraphy Angel

Hello, it's Friday afternoon as I'm writing this but I'm scheduling it for Saturday morning, so hopefully by the time you're reading it I will be at the NEC! That is if there's anyone left to read it, as so many of my crafty friends are going. Hopefully I will get to meet some of you.

Talking of my crafty friends, Kirsty Goodwill (fellow Claritystamp Design Team member) doesn't live that far from me and a I spent a fun afternoon the other day helping her to set up her blog. It's now gone live and I'm sure she'd love some visitors. You can find it here - ARTYK-ulate. One of my favourite cards from last weekend's shows was a card Kirsty made with the Angel stamp that I'm writing about today and the Gelli Plate. Hopefully she will be blogging it soon.

When I saw the Calligraphy Angel stamp I thought it would look beautiful done in Perfect Pearls on double sided adhesive.

I removed one layer of the adhesive sheet's backing paper and used Archival black ink to stamp the angel and sentiment in place. I then covered it with some acetate so that I could work on the reverse.

You add the Perfect Pearls to the reverse by cutting away different areas of the backing paper to reveal the adhesive. I started off with the angel herself and applied Perfect Pearl to her face and wings, Heirloom Gold to her hair and Green Patina to her dress.

Then I cut away a panel at the bottom and applied Green Patina behind the sentiment.

After that I removed the rest of the backing paper and stuck the Sunshine stencil behind her. I pressed Yorkshire Dales gilding flakes onto the adhesive (this has some beautiful green bits in it that look fab with the green Perfect Pearls) before rubbing off the excess and removing the stencil.

Then it was just a case of covering the rest of the adhesive in Heirloom Gold.

It was looking a bit boring down the bottom, as there weren't any gilding flakes down there, so applied some thin red liner tape to the acetate and covered it in gilding flakes. Much better!

Then I just matted it onto some black card and found a co-ordinating sheet of green Kanban card to finish it off.

Gilded Hummingbirds Card

I can't believe we're nearly in June and I'm sat here in a thick fleece thinking about turning the heating back on.....again. It's so different to the lovely weather we had for the Bank Holiday weekend. Talking of June, if you haven't entered this month's challenge on the Clarity Stamp Challenge Blog you have until 8pm on Friday 31st May to have a go. It's well worth it as there's a £50 Claritystamp voucher for the winner, who is chosen at random. On Saturday there will be a new challenge and I will be sharing  the card I've made for that with you. Barbara Gray will be on Create and Craft so it should be a good weekend and if the weather is like this staying in crafting might be a good idea.

Meanwhile, this is another of my samples for the German shows.

It uses Barbara's technique of stamping onto a sheet of double sided adhesive and adhering gilding flakes and mica powders to it. I used gilding flakes for the background and birds, and Perfect Pearls for the moons. It's cut out with a Spellbinders Nestabilities die - Labels Eight. That is matted onto black card cut with Decorative Labels Eight.

The Leafy Columns are stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with black detail powder.

The card is made out of Centura Pearl card which gives it a lovely shimmer.

Quirky Tree Card using Perfect Pearls

This card wasn't actually as fiddly as I thought it would be. It uses Barbara Gray's technique of stamping onto the protective sheet of some double sided adhesive film and cutting away the different areas with a craft knife. Mica powder is then brushed onto the sticky areas. I used Perfect Pearls.

I started off by cutting out the trunk and branches of the tree with my Fiskars FingerTip Craft Knife.  I find it a lot easier than a regular craft knife for doing things like this. Once I'd peeled all of the protective sheet away I brushed on the Heirloom Gold powder. I then did the same for the leaves using Green Patina. After that I just cut cut away a couple of pieces for the foreground and punched a circle out to do a moon. I finished it off with some Blue Patina and Perfect Pearl for the sky.

I wanted the tree to really stand out so I stamped that onto some acetate, using black Stazon, and placed it on top. This is attached by some brads.

The background is made using the Quirky Hedge. I stamped it onto the black card using Versamark ink, then brushed the same colours of Perfect Pearls that I used for the tree onto it.
